About Dr. Dukes
Dr. Karen McGowan-Dukes was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating from Pershing High School in 1975, she attended Shaw College, but graduated from Madonna College/now University in Livonia, Michigan with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Special Education in 1979. Dr. Dukes attended Central Michigan University for her Master of Arts Degree in Education and Specialist in General Administration.
Northcentral University is where she earned her Doctor of Education with a Specialization in Exceptional Student. Dr. Dukes began her teaching career in Detroit Public Schools. She also taught in Geneva, St. Charles, Chicago, and Aurora, Illinois. Currently, Dr. Dukes is a special education teacher for one of the largest school districts in the state of Georgia. She is also the founder and CEO of Dukesway Academy Inc., which was a homeschool network and now a public, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization for educational services.
